Though this page claims to hold art, I am not an artist. I'm more of an art student floundering around in the creative mosh pit of art school. The word "art" is very loaded anyway and sometimes quite slippery. The reason I'm putting these up here and separate from the design stuffs is that I want them to be looked at differently - as creative acts rather than missives with agendas. Hope you find them interesting. =)
Thanks for visiting and feel free to email me comments, questions, retorts, pizzas, and whatever else strikes your fancy!
media | copper wire, copper tube, machined findings, pennies
It's a choker made out of hand-riveted pennies, and yes, it's rather comfortable, though a tad on the weighty side. =) I made a couple extra penny links so its length is widely adjustable, provided you have some pliers and knowledge of how to open/close jump rings. Finished with Renaissance wax so the copper won't turn your skin green. Subtle commentary on the nature of wealth or kitschy curiosity? Not sure yet...
media | screenprinted on Arches 88
dimensions | 11"x"15" image on 15"x22" paper
The story behind this adorably ridiculous image is simply this: I have these two (stuffed) animals sitting around my desk, a dragon and a beaver. One hails from the fantastical lands of fairytales, the other is the industrious "nature's engineer." What would happen if they were awesomely in love? Probably lots of good things. Ta-da, a screenprint is born. This was also my first ever screen print. Fifteen color runs, 2 registration mishaps, 1 hole ripped in expensive screen, and 9+ straight hours of work have produced a 10-print 'edition.' I am in love with them but also selling them, $35 per. Each is actually slightly different so all are unique. Email me if you want one.
media | galvanized steel wire, polymer clay, glitter glue
dimensions | about 14" long, 6"x7" around
This was inspired by a process-oriented drawing. Working with wire is essentially like drawing in 3D. The structure is an organic, pod-like form populated with brightly colored spore-like beings with glitter eyes. Click
here for a close-up. It can stand either vertical or lay horizontal; vertically it suggests a seahorse. Work still somewhat in progress as I decide whether to add LED lights...
